Keeandra Birch (she/her)
Hi there! I’m so happy you are here.
My name is Keeandra, and my hope for you through therapy is to be able to reconnect with an inner sense of safety, self, and acceptance for what’s possible. Oftentimes, we enter therapy upon realizing that there is a pattern or cycle that we just can’t seem to break on our own. It may be that these patterns already give you a great sense of anxiety, of dread even, but you find that they are so difficult to turn away from. Alternatively, maybe you just feel stuck; maybe you feel a sense of numbness that won’t go away, or irritability with yourself and others you can’t explain or understand yourself. While this can feel like something to brush aside or run from, this is exactly where we may need to enter in.
My focus in the therapy room is, first and foremost, to build a relationship with you that prioritizes emotional safety. This means that in the therapy room, you have the freedom to show up as your authentic self, the freedom to ask for what you need, to say “no” or set boundaries around your soul and heart. It means that there is no need for fear of judgment, rejection, or retaliation, and how you are able to show up on any given day is exactly how I desire to meet you. For many who have experienced high conflict relationships, high control relationships, neglectful relationships, or complex trauma, this safety allows for us to cultivate a space that promotes healing; after all, it is quite difficult to heal our souls if we are stuck in survival mode. I believe that pain and grief is largely relational, meaning we are often hurt in relationships, because we are all flawed humans; however, we also have the remarkable capacity to experience healing in relationships. While our gut response may be to return to challenging relationships or withdraw from any relationship completely, my hope is that through counseling, you will learn to listen to your own intuition, values, and desires to enter into what feels most fulfilling to you, including relationships that promote healing, growth, and safety.
My approach largely falls under Attachment theory, Humanistic/Existential theory, and Relational Gestalt therapies, though I also utilize parts work, somatic techniques, and I am first and foremost always approaching topics with a trauma-informed lens. I will caution you that this work is not always easy, and it will likely not feel “fun” or “exciting,” but when you are ready to step into the challenge of processing some of this pain, I am happy to meet you there.
