Our Approach to Treating Eating Disorders + Disordered Eating
Eating disorders manifest themselves in many forms and despite stereotypes, eating disorders exist in many different body shapes and sizes. We believe that eating disorders fall on a continuum and that anyone who is struggling with food, weight, exercise habits, and negative body image deserves high-quality support and care.
Team Members Who Work With Eating Disorders + Disordered Eating
Symptoms of an eating disorder or disordered eating might look like:
Restrictive caloric intake and/or elimination of foods and/or food group
Skipping meals
Excessive and compulsive exercise
Binge eating
Distress and feelings of anxiety, guilt, and/or disgust around food
Purging behaviors (via laxatives, vomiting, diet-pill abuse, diuretics, or excessive exercise)
Chewing and spitting food
Obsession with diets, calories, weight loss, and healthfulness of foods
Specific food rituals
Social withdrawal and avoidance
Thoughts are consumed by food (i.e.: looking up recipes, watching videos of others cooking/eating, cooking for others but not eating that food yourself)
Denial of hunger
Hoarding or stashing food
Poor self-esteem and body image
Ways That We Treat Eating Disorders + Disordered Eating
Eating disorder treatment is multifaceted and we recognize the need for a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed approach. We support clients who are everywhere on the recovery spectrum, from those wanting to achieve full recovery from their eating disorder to those who are seeking to reduce the use of behaviors via harm-reduction. We collaborate with our clients, listen to their recovery goals and actively connect our clients with exceptional medical and nutrition therapy services in our area.
