Our Approach to Treating Eating Disorders + Disordered Eating

Eating disorders manifest themselves in many forms and despite stereotypes, eating disorders exist in many different body shapes and sizes. We believe that eating disorders fall on a continuum and that anyone who is struggling with food, weight, exercise habits, and negative body image deserves high-quality support and care.

Symptoms of an eating disorder or disordered eating might look like:

· Restrictive caloric intake and/or elimination of foods and/or food groups

· Skipping meals

· Excessive and compulsive exercise

· Binge eating

· Distress and feelings of anxiety, guilt, and/or disgust around food

· Purging behaviors (via laxatives, vomiting, diet-pill abuse, diuretics, or excessive
exercise)

· Chewing and spitting food

· Obsession with diets, calories, weight loss, and healthfulness of foods

· Specific food rituals

· Social withdrawal and avoidance

· Thoughts are consumed by food (i.e.: looking up recipes, watching videos of others
cooking/eating, cooking for others but not eating that food yourself)

· Denial of hunger

· Hoarding or stashing food

· Poor self-esteem and body image
